Sex, drugs and election fraud: Jace Kingman, a drug dealer, is recruited to round up Latino day laborers and take them to the polls on Election Day. Dan Vienna, a fired police officer on the road to become an internet porn producer, tries to extort a million dollars from a losing candidate for U.S. Senate by claiming he can prove the election was stolen. Jace and Dan will cross paths as both schemes go awry. Can they save themselves? Or will they destroy each other?

Bio: Steve Silkin was born in New York, grew up in Los Angeles, and has lived in London and Paris. He studied the history of French literature at La Sorbonne and has worked as a reporter and editor in France and the United States. He has consulted the Oracle at Delphi and stood at the edge of the Sahara, but his proudest moment was escaping arrest for trespassing at a skyscraper under construction by fleeing from the LAPD on his bicycle.

Excerpt:

“Well, I don’t know,” she said. “They said they wanted someone really good who wasn’t in politics. Someone who could do a bunch of stuff real quick.”
“What’s ‘a bunch of stuff?’ ”
“I don’t know. It’s for Election Day. But there’s some stuff to do beforehand. They asked me if I knew anybody who was pretty cool, could be low key, y’know, and was smart.”
“Low key? What’s that mean?”
“Well, I don’t know, I think they said: ‘Someone who can keep his mouth shut.’ ”
“Well, that I can do.”
But he thought to himself: Uh-oh. Sounds like another “job” I won’t be able to put on a resume.

Interview with Steve Silkin

N.L Earnshaw:   What will readers like about your book?

Steve Silkin:  It's a political thriller with philosophical angles and edges. Plus there's sex, drugs and election fraud.

N.L Earnshaw:    Why did you self publish?

Steve Silkin:   I had no takers among many agents and publishers I contacted.

N.L Earnshaw:   What inspired you to write this particular story?

Steve Silkin:   I felt I had learned a lot about how the world works while I was working as a city hall reporter in a suburb of Los Angeles and I wanted to share as much as I could in an engaging narrative.
